Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized the vital role that programs like the Scout Movement play in shaping children into responsible and good citizens. She made these remarks at the National Scout Awards Ceremony, which was held at Temple Trees under her patronage.
The event, organized by the Sri Lanka Scout Association, honored 574 adult Scout leaders who have dedicated over five years of voluntary service to the movement. Their invaluable contributions were recognized, with each leader receiving a well-deserved award for their commitment to fostering youth development.
In addition, 11 International Friendship Awards were presented to Scout Commissioners from various countries, marking a significant step in strengthening global ties and promoting friendship through Scouting.
The ceremony also acknowledged the tri-forces and 9 government and non-government institutions that have made unparalleled contributions to the growth of the Scout Movement in Sri Lanka.
Among the awards presented, the prestigious Silva Lion was bestowed upon 8 individuals in recognition of their exceptional service to Scouting in the country.
The event was attended by a distinguished group of local and foreign representatives, including Attorney-at-Law Janaprith Fernando, the Chief Scout Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Scout Association.
Dr. Amarasuriya concluded her speech by expressing her gratitude for the Scout Movement's ongoing efforts to shape the future leaders of Sri Lanka and further cementing the importance of global friendship and cooperation within the Scouting community.
