Former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte has been remanded until December 9 after being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court today (December 7). He was arrested yesterday (December 6) for causing a road accident near Kollupitiya Junction while driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to police, Ratwatte was returning from a relative’s house when his Land Rover Defender collided with another vehicle. A complaint led to an investigation, which confirmed he was intoxicated at the time of the accident, resulting in his arrest.
This incident follows Ratwatte’s release on bail on December 5 in a separate case. He and his wife, Shashi Prabha Ratwatte, were granted bail by the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court on charges of using an illegally imported and assembled luxury car. They were released on Rs. 25,000 cash bail each, along with two personal bonds of Rs. 1 million and the court also issued an overseas travel ban on Ratwatte.
