Former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte was arrested in Kollupitiya following a traffic accident caused while driving under the influence of alcohol today ( December 6).
According to police, the incident involved Ratwatte’s Land Rover Defender colliding with another car in the Kollupitiya area.
This arrest comes just a day after Ratwatte and his wife, Shashi Prabha Ratwatte, were granted bail by the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court in a separate case. They were charged with using a luxury car illegally imported and assembled in Sri Lanka. The court released them on a cash bail of Rs. 25,000 each and two personal bonds of Rs. 1 million each, along with an overseas travel ban on Ratwatte.
The vehicle in question was discovered at a house in Embuldeniya, Mirihana, belonging to Shashi Prabha Ratwatte, the wife of former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte. During a police investigation. Ratwatte and his wife had claimed the car was brought there by Ratwatte’s private secretary, who was recently found dead with gunshot injuries in Kandy.
Further investigations are underway.
