The U.S. delegation, led by Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA), Donald Lu, met with Foreign Minister, Vijitha Herath, today (December 6).

The discussions focused on collaborative efforts to support Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and governance reforms.

The delegation included key officials, such as USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator Anjali Kaur and U.S. Department of Treasury Deputy Assistant Secretary Robert Kaproth. These agencies have been instrumental in aiding Sri Lanka’s recent economic recovery.

U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung, shared on X (formerly Twitter): “We congratulated Sri Lanka’s new administration and discussed shared priorities. We explored tailored programs, capacity-building, and technical assistance to support economic and governance reforms to benefit the Sri Lankan people.”

Assistant Secretary Donald Lu’s visit, which began yesterday (December 5) with, aims to advance joint efforts between the U.S. and Sri Lanka to promote sustainable economic growth, combat corruption, and strengthen people to people  ties between the two nations.
