The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has confirmed that it will submit its proposal for revising electricity tariffs to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) today, December 6. This proposal, which aims to adjust tariffs for the first half of 2025, is expected to be implemented in the third week of January.
Dr. Thilak Siyambalapitiya, Chairman of the CEB, assured that the submission would go ahead as planned. This move follows the government's decision to limit tariff revisions to twice annually, in contrast to the quarterly adjustments made under the previous administration.
Earlier this year, the CEB had proposed a reduction of approximately 6% in electricity tariffs for implementation in December.
However, the PUCSL flagged significant errors in the proposal and requested corrections, delaying the planned tariff change. The new submission is expected to address these issues and proceed with the necessary adjustments for 2025.
