The Vehicle Importers' Association of Sri Lanka has expressed optimism that vehicle imports will resume in February 2025. Speaking at a press briefing in Colombo, the association announced plans to meet with the President to ensure the process is conducted properly.
Indika Sampath Merinchige, the association's president, stated that the government has assured importers that permission for vehicle imports will be granted soon. He also highlighted that the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has agreed to allocate necessary financial resources for imports, provided they begin in February 2025.
Additionally, Merinchige noted that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved the resumption of vehicle imports, further boosting the association’s confidence in the timeline.
