The Matara District Disaster Management Coordination Unit has assured that all necessary arrangements are in place to help students sitting for the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination tomorrow (November 25) reach their examination centers safely, even during emergencies caused by the weather.
Assistant Director of the Matara District Disaster Management Coordination Unit, Lieutenant Colonel Kelum Kudagamage stated that the Sri Lanka Navy and Army are on standby to deploy boats, unibuffer vehicles, and tractors if the flood situation persists.
Meanwhile, boats and tractors available at Divisional Secretariats and Pradeshiya Sabhas will also be used to transport students if needed.
Students facing travel difficulties due to adverse weather can seek help via the 24-hour emergency hotline at 041 2234 134.
While heavy rains recently caused minor flooding in parts of Matara, officials reported no significant rainfall from last night (November 23) to 4.00 p.m. today (November 24). The floodwaters are receding as weather conditions improve.
Authorities remain committed to ensuring that all students can attend their exams without disruption.
