A major landslide has completely blocked the Badulla-Passara road affecting traffic flow from the 13th post area.

The landslide, which occurred without any preceding rainfall, covered a stretch of approximately 60 meters of the road with soil and stones, making the route impassable.

The landslide has severely impacted transportation to and from several towns, including Bibila, Madakalupawa, Moneragala, Ampara, and Mahaoya. As a result, traffic between Badulla and these areas has been halted entirely, with no clear timeline for reopening the road.

Local authorities report that three three-wheelers parked in the affected area have been damaged due to the debris.  No injuries have been reported, but the damage to vehicles and the disruption to travel have created significant challenges for commuters.

The police have urged the public to use alternative routes in order to avoid the area. It is still unclear when the road will be cleared and fully reopened. Authorities are currently assessing the situation and working on safety measures to prevent further incidents.

Drivers are advised to stay updated on road conditions and follow police instructions when navigating alternate routes.
