The People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) urged the public to keep calm and not succumb to panic regarding potential post-Election violence, as the authorities have not received any credible information suggesting such disturbances.t

The PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi, reassuring the public, stated: “We have not received any verified information about potential violence in the wake of this Election. Many of the reports suggesting unrest are unverified and should be treated with caution.”

He emphasised the importance of responsible behaviour in maintaining social peace during the election period.

He appealed to religious leaders, civil society representatives, political activists, and other stakeholders to play an active role in preserving harmony. “We urge everyone to act responsibly and to contribute to a peaceful environment. It is crucial for the dignity of the Presidential candidates and the electoral process that all citizens conduct themselves with respect.”

He also highlighted the need for adherence to election regulations, particularly concerning propaganda. He noted that all campaign activities and propaganda must cease after tomorrow (18). “We request that all social media campaigning and propaganda stop after this date. Social media pages operated from abroad will also fall under election laws, and any violations will be subject to legal action.”
