Sajith Premadasa, the Opposition leader and presidential candidate from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), emphasized his steadfast commitment to the implementation of the 13th Amendment to the Sri Lankan Constitution.

The 13th Amendment, which devolves powers to provincial councils, is seen as a crucial step towards fostering reconciliation among Sri Lanka's diverse ethnic and religious communities.

He highlighted the amendment's legal standing and its role in promoting national unity.

"I have consistently supported the need to enforce the 13th Amendment, and I will continue to do so. This amendment is enshrined in our legal framework, and its implementation is essential for achieving reconciliation among the country's various communities. The Supreme Court has confirmed that it is in line with maintaining the country's unity,"

Opposition leader  expressed confidence in the amendment's positive impact, despite apprehensions from other political figures.

"We are obligated to uphold what is legally mandated. It is my duty to speak out on this matter plainly and to advocate for what I believe is right," he added.
