Kandy Police Headquarters has initiated an investigation following a complaint lodged by Anura Wasgewatta, Head of the Raids Division at Kandy Municipal Council.

Wasgewatta alleges that K. D. Lal Kantha, an executive member of the National People’s Power (NPP), threatened him at a recent NPP public rally in Kandy.

The incident reportedly stemmed from an attempt by Wasgewatta to remove an NPP propaganda cut-out near the Kandy Clock Tower, leading to a confrontation where Kantha allegedly issued threats publicly during the NPP rally.

The Kandy Police said that they are working to get a statement from the Kandy Municipal Commissioner regarding the incident.

Wasgewatta has also submitted an audio tape to the Kandy Police stating that this threat was made on him during the campaign rally on Juy 16 in front of Kandy Central Market which was led by the leader of the NPP Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
