A shooting near the 6th-mile post on the Galpoththayaya-Julampitiya Road in Middeniya last night has left a couple injured.
According to police reports, the couple was traveling on a motorcycle when they were shot at, resulting in injuries to the man and the woman sustaining injuries from the motorcycle overturning.
The injured individuals, a 42-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman from Julampitiya, were initially treated at Middeniya Hospital and later transferred to Embilipitiya Hospital for further medical attention.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple was attacked while returning home after closing their store for the day. The weapon used in the shooting, a locally manufactured firearm, was found at the crime scene, although the suspects remain unidentified. The Middeniya Police are actively investigating the incident.
