Kalpitiya police have arrested Puttalam District MP Ali Sabri Raheem following the execution of a recently issued warrant.
Raheem voluntarily appeared before the authorities this morning (20) and was subsequently taken into custody, according to police sources.
He is expected to be presented before the court later today.
In March, Raheem faced a one-month suspension from Parliament after a resolution for his suspension was passed due to undisclosed reasons. Previously, he had been involved in a controversy involving the seizure of undeclared gold and mobile phones at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Colombo last year.
