The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has decided to closely monitor the activities of state officials during the Presidential Election period.
HRCSL Commissioner Attorney-At-Law Nimal Punchihewa emphasized that state officials must adhere to existing election laws following the announcement of the Presidential Election. He stressed that government officials are bound to uphold the rule of law.
Punchihewa said that state officials promoting certain candidates in violation of the law constitutes a human rights violation. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that state officials and institutions do not infringe on human rights during the election period.
