The Supreme Court has fixed the order for July 24 regarding nine Fundamental Rights petitions challenging the appointment of Deshabandu Tennakoon as the Inspector General of Police. These petitions seek to restrain Tennakoon from performing his duties as IGP.

Both IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon and the Attorney General have objected to the maintainability of these petitions and have requested the Supreme Court to dismiss them immediately.

The hearing spanned several days and concluded around 8:50pm with the consent of all parties involved. The Supreme Court bench hearing these petitions consisted of Justice Yasantha Kodagoda, Justice Achala Wengappuli, and Justice Mahinda Samayawardena.
