The Public Security Minister Tiran Alles said that no punitive action will be taken against senior police officers involved in the interrogation of a tattoo studio owner in Athurugiriya, despite the controversial circumstances surrounding the interrogation being conducted in front of the media.

Specifically, Western Province (South) Deputy Inspector General of Police Gayantha Marapana was involved in questioning the tattoo studio owner following a shooting incident. The interrogation was recorded on video and drew public attention.

Minister Alles addressed the media and stated that although he strongly cautioned the officers against repeating similar actions in the future, no disciplinary or legal actions would be pursued against them. He clarified that he did not direct the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take any punitive measures either.

The Minister mentioned that DIG Marapana expressed regret over the incident and assured him that such situations would not happen again. He emphasized that the senior officers in question had effectively carried out the investigation into the Athurugiriya shooting, resulting in the successful arrest of several suspects, with only two suspects remaining at large.
