Earth tremor of magnitude 2.7 reported from Sri Lanka

A minor earth tremor measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale was reported this evening in the area between Anuradhapura and Kantale in Sri Lanka.

According to the  Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) the event occurred at approximately 6:30 PM local time.

Residents in the surrounding areas reported feeling slight vibrations, but there have been no reports of damage or injuries.

GSMB officials have assured the public that such minor tremors are not uncommon in the region and are part of natural seismic activities.
