The Attorney General today assured the Court of Appeal that Sri Lankan model Piumi Hansamali will not be arrested until her writ petition is considered on September 20. Hansamali has filed a writ petition challenging the legality of the CID's Illegal Assets Investigations Division's probe into her alleged suspicious property acquisitions.

Deputy Solicitor General Shanil Kularatne informed the court that there is no need to arrest Hansamali before the next hearing. However, this does not halt the ongoing CID investigations.

When the case was called before Justice Sobhitha Rajakaruna, Kularatne requested more time to prepare, citing recent notice service to respondents. President's Counsel Ronald Perera represented Hansamali.

Hansamali's petition seeks to suspend the CID's investigation into her asset acquisition. She has named the IGP, the CID Director, and the Director of the Illegal Assets Investigations Division, among others, as respondents.

The CID began investigating Hansamali following a complaint that she acquired significant properties through organized crime.
