Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe strongly criticised the Sri Lanka Police Department for releasing video footage of a suspect arrested in connection with the recent shooting in Athurugiriya.
The minister condemned the act as a violation of the law, stating that questioning a suspect in public with media access is improper.
Minister Rajapakshe further asserted that Police officers involved in such actions should be suspended, emphasising that releasing sensitive information to the media during ongoing investigations could amount to contempt of court.
He questioned the legality of such investigative practices and highlighted their detrimental impact on public trust in the judicial system.
