Army troops have been deployed at 45 railway stations, to assist the police in providing security at railway stations due to the strike of railway Station Masters and Train Controllers, which began on Tuesday based on several demands.
Due to the strike, the Ministry of Defence has requested the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage to deploy Army troops to assist the police in providing security at railway stations.
The Commander of the Army has instructed the Security Force Commanders to deploy troops accordingly.
Under the supervision of the Security Forces - West and Security Forces - Central Commanders, Army troops have been deployed at 45 railway stations, including Kandy, Katugastota, Matale, Peradeniya, Gampola, Nawalapitiya, Hatton, Watawala, Kotagala, Thalawakele, Nanuoyya, Ambewela, Puttalam, Chilaw, Madampe, Nattandiya, Alawwa, Polgahawela, Kurunegala, and Mahawa.
