A retired naval rating wanted in connection with the rape of a 15-year-old schoolgirl was arrested yesterday at Rambukkana Railway Station by the Kegalle Division Crime Investigations Unit of the Police.
His two sons 15 and 18 years of age involved in the incident had been arrested earlier, and the former was placed under probation and the latter remanded by Warakapola Magistrate Lusaka Kumari Dharmakirthi.
Investigations revealed that the 15-year-old girl of Warakapola had on the request of a 15-year-old boy in Polonnaruwa whom she acquainted through the internet had gone to his house in Polonnaruwa Ranaviru Village only to be raped by his 50-year-old father and the 18-year-old brother at times.
Police said when she conceived, the main suspect and his two sons had taken her to her parental home in Warakapola and left her. However, on information received by the police emergency service Warakapola Police had arrested the two boys, but their father had fled from the area and evaded arrest.
During further investigations, the main suspect was arrested and handed over to Warakapola Police yesterday by the Kegalle Division Crime Investigation Unit.
