The Attorney General today raised preliminary objections against a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition seeking to restrain the Election Commission from conducting the 2024 Presidential Election. He moved the Supreme Court to dismiss the petition in limine (at the outset).

Deputy Solicitor General Kanishka de Silva, representing the Election Commission, made this request during the hearing of the FR petition filed by businessman Chamindra Dayan Lenawa. The petition was called before a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.
