The case filed by the Cinnamon Garden Police against National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa and six other party activists for allegedly causing public nuisance has been postponed to July 15 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s court.

Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage scheduled the hearing for July 15 due to Wimal Weerawansa's absence in court, as he was attending a special session in Parliament. Counsel Jayantha Weerasinghe PC, representing Weerawansa, cited his client's parliamentary obligations for his absence and requested a further trial date, which the Magistrate granted.

The accused, including Wimal Weerawansa and six others, are charged with causing disturbance to the public and traffic flow by blocking Bauddhaloka Mawatha in Colombo on February 6, 2016. This protest, organized by the NFF against the visit of United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, allegedly occurred without prior police permission. Additionally, the organizers purportedly used loudspeakers without a valid license and obstructed the main road, causing inconvenience to the public and disrupting traffic flow.

Magistrate Tilina Gamage issued a warning to the second prosecution witness to ensure their appearance in court on the next trial date.
