India's National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) is set to welcome a cohort of senior civil service officers from Sri Lanka for a two-week-long capacity building program, commencing on May 13, 2024, in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand.

The initiative, facilitated under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Program (ITEC) by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), aims to enhance governance and public service delivery through the exchange of knowledge and innovations.

According to a statement from the Indian High Commission, the program will host 40 senior civil servants from various Sri Lankan ministries and departments, including the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, National Police Commission, Attorney General Department, Sri Lanka Customs, Ministry of Finance, Economic Stabilization & National Policies, and Audit Service Commission.

In collaboration with the MEA, NCGG will focus on leveraging digital technology to bridge the gap between citizens and government, aligning with the policy framework of 'Maximum Governance – Minimum Government.' Participants will be exposed to successful Indian initiatives such as universal housing, digital technology integration, disaster management, health insurance schemes, public-private partnerships, and election management.

The program will not only include theoretical sessions but also practical insights through field visits to various governance projects. This initiative follows a similar capacity-building program hosted by NCGG earlier for senior civil servants from Sri Lanka, reflecting India's commitment to fostering international cooperation in public policy and governance.

NCGG, operating under the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, Government of India, has previously collaborated with the MEA to train civil servants from 17 countries, including Bangladesh, Kenya, Tanzania, and Nepal, among others.
