The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) revealed to the Court that former President Maithripala Sirisena's statements to the CID and evidence from CCTV footage are contradictory regarding the Easter Sunday attacks.

Counsel Rajitha Lakmal, representing Parliamentarian Kavinda Jayawardena, urged the court to consider issuing an arrest order if the former President provided false statements by hiding the truth. In response, Maligakanda Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrema directed the CID to take appropriate action if Sirisena has committed any criminal offense.

The CID submitted a factual report to the Maligakanda Magistrate's Court concerning the former President's recent statement. Minister of Public Security Tiran Alas instructed the Inspector General of Police to conduct a thorough investigation into Sirisena's claim that he was aware of individuals involved in the Easter Sunday bombings on April 21, 2019. The court mandated a progress report on the investigation by July 26.
