The suspected gunman involved in the shooting incident in Horana earlier today has been apprehended at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while attempting to escape to Dubai.
According to Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa, the suspect was identified and captured using the Automated Facial Recognition System (AFRS) installed at the airport's departure terminal. The arrested individual is identified as 31-year-old Godellage Ashen Janith Kumara from Horaketiya, Horana.
This development follows an incident at Graceland Estate in Horana on Sunday, where an individual was injured and hospitalized due to gunfire from two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle. The motive behind the shooting is reported to be a dispute between opposing factions.
The Special Task Force (STF) has taken possession of the motorcycle used in the shooting as part of their ongoing investigation into the matter.
