Today, Colombo High Court acquitted and released SLPP Parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage from a money laundering case.
The Attorney General had brought forth the case, alleging that Aluthgamage purchased a house worth Rs. 27 million in Colombo 7 using illegally acquired funds, constituting a predicate offence under the Bribery Act.
However, Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe ruled that the prosecution failed to prove Aluthgamage's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
