The Western Province – South Crimes Unit has arrested a Software Engineer in possession of various drugs, including Hash and Kush Cannabis, smuggled into Sri Lanka from Italy.
Acting on a tip-off from the officers of the Sri Lanka Army Intelligence Division, the arrest took place at Wijerama Junction in Nugegoda, where drugs worth approximately Rs. 5 million were seized along with the suspect.
The confiscated items include 1 kilogram and 238 grams of Hash, 90 grams of Kush Cannabis, Rs.100,000 in cash, two iPhones, and a motorcycle utilized for drug trafficking.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the drugs were imported from Italy, according to police sources.
The arrested suspect, identified as a Software Engineering degree-holder with intentions of migrating to Australia for employment, hails from the Ragama area and has been transferred to the Mirihana Police for further legal proceedings before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court today (29).
Moreover, authorities have disclosed that the alleged mastermind behind the drug smuggling network from Italy resides in the Kadawatha area, prompting an ongoing investigation to apprehend him.
