Two car drivers have been arrested in connection with a tragic accident that occurred during the Diyatalawa Fox Hill Motor Race, resulting in the death of 7 individuals.
The drivers, who were also injured in the accident, were taken to the hospital for treatment before being arrested by the police. Additionally, 23 others were injured and hospitalized for medical care.
The 2024 Fox Hill Motor Racing Series commenced on April 21 at the Diyatalawa Fox Hill race track, marking its return after a 5-year hiatus.
The last race was held on April 21, 2019, but was halted due to the Easter attack, leading to a prolonged break in the tournament.
Unfortunately, the race on April 21, 2024, was marred by tragedy when a car veered off the track during the morning race, resulting in the accident. The Sri Lanka Army has initiated an internal investigation into the incident, utilizing available video footage and photographs related to the accident.
As a result of the accident, one individual is currently receiving intensive care treatment at Diyatalawa Hospital. The Sri Lankan Army is actively conducting investigations to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident at the motor race.
