Tragedy struck in Jaffna Hospital as a 62-year-old woman, who had recently returned from France, succumbed to Covid-19 following treatment, hospital sources confirmed.
The deceased, a resident of Jaffna, was admitted to the hospital after exhibiting symptoms of fever upon her return from France just a week prior to her demise.
According to hospital authorities, the woman passed away on Friday, April 12. The revelation of her cause of death came today with the receipt of the post-mortem report, confirming it to be Covid-19 related.
In response to the incident, Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) have initiated contact tracing efforts to identify and quarantine individuals who may have had close contact with the deceased, in a bid to contain the spread of the virus within the community.
