Two women were killed, and a father and daughter sustained serious injuries after their car veered off the road near the Ganadevi Temple in Haliela on the main road of Badulla-Bandarawela today.
The mishap occurred as the family was en route to celebrate the Sinhalese Hindu New Year.
The deceased were identified as H.M. Kamalavathy (70) from Gampaha Dompe area and her daughter-in-law, Siriavathi (51).
The injured, a 53-year-old father and his 22-year-old daughter, are currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of the Badulla Teaching Hospital.
Police are investigating the incident.
