The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has demanded swift and transparent action following the alleged assault of a young man by officers from the Medawachchiya Police Traffic Division.

The reported brutal attack resulted in the surgical removal of one of the victim's testicles at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital on April 9.

In a statement, BASL emphasized the need for holding the perpetrators accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

The association strongly condemns any use of brutality by police officers in the execution of their official duties, citing international treaties and constitutional provisions that prohibit torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment.

BASL stated its commitment to closely monitoring this case and urged authorities to take all necessary legal measures to prevent such heinous acts from recurring.

Referencing a Supreme Court judgment, BASL affirmed that every citizen, regardless of background, is entitled to full constitutional protection.
