The Inspector General of Police, Deshabandu Tennakoon, has instructed the offering of cash rewards to police officers who arrest drunk drivers. 

According to Traffic DIG Indika Hapugoda, a reward of Rs. 5,000 will be given to any police officer who apprehends a drunk driver.

Additionally, 150,000 breathalyzer test kits will be provided to all police stations on Sinhala and Tamil New Year's Day to detect intoxicated drivers. 

DIG Hapugoda also noted that 1,500 police officers have been deployed for this operation.
