The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has briefed Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis on an ongoing investigation into an alleged plot to assassinate Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage using a T81 firearm and a hand grenade.

The CID's Special Investigation Unit informed the court that the probe was launched following a complaint filed by Magistrate Thilina Gamage himself. Acting on instructions from the Minister of Public Security, the Inspector General delegated this case to the CID's Special Investigation Unit.

In its report to the court, the CID detailed that an informant had disclosed information to the Public Security Minister about the assassination scheme. The CID further revealed that the informant provided details, including a phone number, indicating that an individual had sought a firearm via phone to carry out the attack on Magistrate Thilina Gamage.
