Chilaw District Judge and Chief Magistrate Sirimevan Mahendraraja has ordered the release of 68 suspects accused of burning and destroying the Arachchikattu house of former state minister Sanath Nishantha, who died in an accident.

The suspects include the chief organizer of the Chilaw National People's Front, comprising UNP's Chilaw and Arachchikattuwa local councilors, along with a group of National People's Front supporters.

After a trial lasting nearly two years, during which the police failed to present credible evidence against the suspects, the magistrate reviewed the facts and decided to release the group when the case was brought before the court again.
