Fifteen foreigners were arrested by the Special Investigation Unit of the Immigration Department in Dehiwala, Colombo, for illegally staying in Sri Lanka while working online.
Of the arrested individuals, 11 are Indian nationals from Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. The remaining four are Nepali nationals, all aged between 20 and 30 years.
Among them, 11 possess expired residence visas issued for other institutions. The remaining four arrived in Sri Lanka on tourist visas but were found working.
The detained foreigners have been taken to the Mirihana detention center. After completing judicial investigations, they will be deported from the country.
