A writ petition has been filed seeking an order for a credible investigation and appropriate actions against Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardane for his alleged omission and serious dereliction of duty that contributed to the Easter Sunday attacks. The Court of Appeal today scheduled the petition for support, alongside two other similar petitions.
The two-judge bench of Justices Sobhitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola fixed the support date for May 28. The Centre for Society and Religion filed this petition, represented by its Chairman Fr. Rohan Silva and Surach Nilanga, a victim of the Easter Sunday attack. The petition names the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardane, and the Attorney General as respondents.
The petitioners are seeking a Writ of Mandamus, directing the IGP and the Attorney General to promptly take action to implement the findings and recommendations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on the Easter Sunday attacks.
