The Attorney General objected today to the bail application for former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, currently in remand custody over alleged substandard Immunoglobulin injections.
Deputy Solicitor General Lakmini Girihagama, representing the Attorney General, raised preliminary objections against the revision application filed by Rambukwella's daughter, Chaminthri Rambukwella, questioning its maintainability.
Chaminthri Rambukwella's application to the Colombo High Court seeks her father's release on bail determined by the court. During the hearing before High Court Judge Sujeewa Nissanka, the Deputy Solicitor General moved to dismiss the revision application due to alleged non-disclosure of material facts, including proceedings from the Magistrate’s court on February 29, 2024.
President’s Counsel Anuja Premaratne, representing the petitioner, refuted the Attorney General's claims, stating that they have applied for relevant court proceedings but have yet to receive them. He affirmed that these facts were included in the revision application.
The Colombo High Court scheduled a decision on the preliminary objections for April 3. Chaminthri Rambukwella's application alleges that the Maligakanda Magistrate repeatedly denied bail to her father without reasonable grounds. Keheliya Rambukwella and ten others were remanded until March 28 by the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court on March 14 in connection with the case.
