The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is set to record a statement from former President Maithripala Sirisena tomorrow regarding his recent remark on the Easter Sunday bombings in 2019, where he claimed to be "well aware" of the true perpetrators.
Public Security Minister Tiran Alles yesterday directed IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon to launch an immediate investigation into the former President's remark.
Consequently, the IGP instructed the CID to initiate a probe into Sirisena's disclosure.
Former President Maithripala Sirisena revealed on Friday that he is well aware of the true perpetrators behind the Easter Sunday bombings in 2019. He made this disclosure while addressing reporters in Kandy.
