The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis that they have launched an investigation into a complaint filed by a prominent actress.
She alleges that her ex-boyfriend, currently residing abroad, attempted to blackmail her by threatening to publish nude photos of her online if she did not transfer money to him.
The CID told the Court that the actress and her boyfriend, who is overseas, had been in a relationship for approximately four years. However, she terminated the relationship after gaining fame, prompting him to retaliate by threatening to distribute her nude photos on the internet.
Accordingly, the CID informed that the ex-boyfriend, residing abroad, forwarded several account numbers to the actress, instructing her to transfer money to prevent the photos from being uploaded online. In fear of his actions, the actress transferred funds to some of these accounts.
Consequently, the Magistrate granted permission to the CID's request to obtain reports regarding the relevant bank accounts and instructed the department to conclude the investigation and present the findings to the Court.
