Fisherfolk in the North staged a protest in Jaffna today, raising concerns about the challenges posed by Indian poachers in Sri Lankan waters.
Displaying black flags on their trawlers, they urged authorities to safeguard Sri Lankan fishermen.
Representatives highlighted incidents of forceful entry by Indian poachers, leading to boat and gear damage, assaults on local fishermen, and accused the government of inadequate protection and compensation.
The protest led to a majority of fishermen in the North abstaining from fishing activities.
