Nine people sustained injuries when two boats collided in the Kilinochchi Pooneryn Sea while transporting devotees to the annual festival at Punareen Palayatheev St. Anthony's Church.
The accident occurred as the two boats, reportedly owned by Kilinochchi fishermen and not intended for passenger transport, were traveling at high speed to the church festival. It is believed that the collision happened due to the boats' high speed and close proximity to each other.
As a result of the collision, four individuals from both boats fell into the sea. However, the remaining crew members managed to rescue them from the water.
The injured individuals were promptly taken to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, Pooneryn Police have launched an investigation.
