The court has granted permission for Dr. Saman Ratnayake, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health, who was arrested and remanded in custody by the Criminal Investigation Department, to voluntarily provide a confession. This decision comes after his lawyers made a request to the court.

Maligakanda Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama has authorized the doctor to make the statement on the 4th March taking into account the request from his legal representatives.

Dr. Saman Ratnayake was arrested and subsequently ordered to be remanded until the 14th thismonth. 

He faces charges related to causing financial losses to the government and jeopardizing the lives of patients by importing questionable immunoglobulin injections into Sri Lanka.
