In a recent announcement by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery is set to halt operations for a 45-day period commencing in early July 2024. This shutdown marks over three years since its previous turnaround (TAR) in February 2021.

According to the CPC statement, this hiatus is obligatory to adhere to international standards, ensuring the refinery's continued safe and reliable functioning for the subsequent three years.

Upon resumption of operations post-turnaround, the refinery will undergo enhancements aimed at aligning its capabilities with Sri Lanka's evolving product demands.

During the scheduled shutdown, the CPC assures the maintenance of full crude capacity, facilitating a swift return to maximum throughput. Moreover, the corporation plans to stockpile products for approximately double the duration of the shutdown, guaranteeing uninterrupted supply to consumers.
