The Court of Appeal has intervened to halt the auction of the New Nawaloka Medical Centre (Private) Limited property, issuing an interim order against Hatton National Bank PLC.

Justice D.N. Samarakoon granted this order until March 13, responding to an application filed by New Nawaloka Medical Centre.

This move challenges the Colombo Commercial High Court's decision on February 22, 2024.

The Court of Appeal directed its registrar to promptly notify the respondents of the interim order, utilizing ordinary and expedited means of communication.

The order follows the Commercial High Court's reversal of its earlier injunction, allowing Hatton National Bank PLC to proceed with auctioning the properties securing loans granted to New Nawaloka Medical Centre. The Centre swiftly filed an application for restitutio in integrum, seeking to overturn the Commercial High Court's decision.

New Nawaloka Medical Centre is represented by President’s Counsel Romesh De Silva, instructed by Attorney-at-Law Sanath Wijewardane.
