The two police constables from the Itthepana police station, who were arrested and remanded for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000, have been interdicted.

Kalutara's Senior Superintendent of Police has interdicted police constables S.M. Hewage and Madugalla accordingly.

The suspects were arrested for purportedly soliciting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from an individual to return a driver's license seized in connection with a traffic violation and to refrain from taking legal action.

They were arrested on February 26 by officials from the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission and remanded until March 12 following their court appearance.

The police headquarters announced that the two officers were suspended from duty yesterday due to their misconduct.
