The Attorney General informed the Supreme Court that he will not represent former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in several petitions.
The petitions, filed on April 1, 2022, following the 'Aragalaya' incident, sought a verdict asserting the violation of basic human rights due to a gazette notification imposing curfew and banning social media.
Senior State Attorney-at-law Shaminda Wickrama represented the Attorney General during the hearing of six petitions. These petitions addressed the violation of basic human rights through the emergency regulations announced by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in the gazette notification.
The petitions were presented before a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Prithi Padman Surasena, Gamini Amarasekara, and Shiran Gunaratne.
