Police said that two individuals on a motorcycle fired shots near a hotel (Pearl Beach) on Marine Drive in Wellawatta before fleeing the scene.
They said that the individuals fled after discharging a T-56 assault firearm into the air.
At least nine empty shells were recovered at the scene, leading police to suspect that the shots were fired as a warning.
The Wellawatta Police are currently investigating the incident.
