Following extensive deliberations with union representatives, Higher Education Ministry officials, and Treasury officials, the Education Ministry has put forth recommendations to the Cabinet aimed at rectifying long-standing salary discrepancies among non-academic staff in state universities.
The Education Ministry revealed that a joint decision was reached during discussions to address the salary anomalies that have persisted since 2016. The proposed resolution seeks to provide a salary increase of 92% to non-academic staff, replacing the previous 107% disparity.
The move comes after years of negotiations and advocacy efforts by university non-academic staff unions, highlighting the urgency of addressing wage discrepancies within the education sector.
The Ministry anticipates that a policy decision will be made based on the Cabinet Memorandum, with further actions contingent upon receiving the relevant Cabinet decisions in the imminent future.
