An investigation by the National Child Protection Authority into alleged sexual abuse of sixth-grade girls by a teacher at a mixed school in Kurunegala confirmed the abuse.
The Kurunegala District Secretary has called for a fair investigation into the incident.
The incident occurred last November, and concerns were raised about the initial inquiry.
The investigation team, led by the National Child Protection Authority's Kurunegala District Office, interviewed the victims, their parents, and school officials.
The report concluded that the teacher abused the students repeatedly during school hours.
The teacher is currently absent from duty, and his whereabouts are unknown.
His service has been suspended, and the school principal has reported the matter to the Kurunegala Regional Education Office.
It was reported that similar allegations against the teacher in the past have reportedly gone unaddressed.
